Authenticity has been defined as something that is honest, genuine or original. Yet, we argue that perceptions of authenticity are shaped by social and cultural values, making this traditional definition too limiting. Through our exhibition we therefore aim to expand the meaning of authenticity, to move beyond the dichotomous labels of real versus fake. So as you experience the exhibit, we invite you to ask yourself: What IS real?

Today as a class we discussed title and theme for the exhibit.
Regarding the title from went from:

  • to:
  • The Great Pretenders: Questioning the Meaning of Authenticity

We also decided on the theme. After much discussion we all agreed on the basis of:
  • 6 principles of assessement:
    • form and design
    • materials and substance
    • use and function
    • traditions and techniques
    • location and setting
    • spirit and feeling

Then as a group -- we created the twitter account. thegr8pretendrs. follow us!
