Authenticity has been defined as something that is honest, genuine or original. Yet, we argue that perceptions of authenticity are shaped by social and cultural values, making this traditional definition too limiting. Through our exhibition we therefore aim to expand the meaning of authenticity, to move beyond the dichotomous labels of real versus fake. So as you experience the exhibit, we invite you to ask yourself: What IS real?

February 25th, 2010 -- Intro Day

So we just figured out which groups we have been placed in. Most of the girls in our group originally wanted to be in Promotion/Fundraising, but we are all pleased with having been placed on the Documentation Team. Otherwise known as Team Awesome. Right away, we had many ideas and ways in which to document this process. First, we decided that we wanted to create this blog. We also wanted to keep it modern so we knew that we wanted to create Facebook and Twitter accounts. Our group decided that we would have a representative from our to group to interact with each different group. By the end of class, we exchanged e-mails and we began to get very excited about our future work.

In case you are lost, or not from our class, our Human Ecology 462 class is creating an exhibit for our Human Ecology Building. This exhibit will be based around what we have learned in this 'Material Culture in the Home and Community' class. The photo above is a previous exhibit that was done in the showcase, and this is were we will be creating ours as well. We are part of the Documentation Committee, one of the many committees made to help the project come together. Please come back and follow our journey in developing this exhibition. Learn with us.
